Dylan Walsh was born on November 17th, 1963 in Los Angeles, California, USA. His birth name is Charles Hunter Walsh. He has a sister, Alison Walsh. Walsh spent his first ten years growing up in Africa, India and Indonesia, as both parents were in the Foreign Service. After his tenth birthday, his family settled in Annandale, Virginia, a suburb of Washington,D.C.
Dylan Walsh made his professional acting debut while still in high school, appearing with such prestigious Washington theatre companies as the Arena Stage and the Studio Theatre. He graduated Annandale High School in 1982.
He began to study at the University of Virginia and became an English major. Most of his time *was spent* there acting in the theatre department. During his summers, he performed with the Heritage Repertory Company in such plays as A Midsummer Night's Dream, Curse of the Starving Class, Romeo and Juliet, Death of a Salesman and Our Town.
After graduation he left for New York and made his first TV appearance on a CBS-Production "Soldier Boys"(1987). He made his film debut in "Loverboy"(1989). After playing some small roles the actor finally settled on the professional name "Dylan Walsh".
Admitted to taking roles just to pay the bills. Then his career truly began to gain momentum in the early '90s, Walsh's appearances in Betsy's Wedding (1990) and Nobody's Fool (1994) showed an actor just waiting for his breakthrough role.
He married actress Melora Walters in 1996. They have two children Thomas(8) and Joanna(6). Dylan Walsh and Melora Walters divorced their marriage in 29 July 2003. Today (June 2004) they share custody of their two children. Walsh is now living with actress Joanna Going, acquainted with each other since playing together in "Eden"(1996), and their daughter Stella Haven Walsh, born on 22 November 2003.
Leading roles in films like "Congo" (1995) "We were soldiers"(2002), "Blood work"(2002) make him well known. But he also starred in the independent films like "Divided by Hate"(1996). The role in Dave Schultz's dark psychological drama Jet Boy (2001) offered some contrast to Walsh's recent performances, and simultaneously proved that he was fully capable of handling a leading dramatic role.
In 2003, Walsh signed for the critically acclaimed television series Nip/Tuck, which is settled in the plastic surgery-business. He plays Dr. Sean McNamara an husband and father, who practicing in Miami with his partner and friend Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). With season one of this drama FX had an unexpected success. Nip/Tuck was nominated for several awards (Golden Globe among others). The pilot of season 2 is scheduled for June 22nd, 2004 on the US-Channel FX Networks.
