Joël Legendre: Do you like these types of events? Or dislike them?
Roy Dupuis: Hum… I can’t say I like them.
JL: OK
RD: …There are parts that I like, times that are fun, times that are not so fun. I couldn’t really tell you. Well, for me to come back to these events, I am not, hum, it’s necessary for me to make the effort, right?
JL: Once you’re seated, right?
RD: That depends
JL: Oh yes, again even then, that depends?
RD: There are moments that are more nerve-racking then others, you know…
JL: That happens to you, when you are nominated? Are you use to that or not?
RD: Being nominated? Well, that’s the fun, that is to say that our work is appreciated. But, with that comes the tense moments. When they read the names, will it be necessary for me to go up front? I am the kind of person, I don’t know, I’m not very good at making speeches.
JL: Ah OK, yes, yes
RD: It’s not my favorite thing to do). But, you do what is needed.
JL: That’s just part of the game.
RD: Yes, it’s a little like that. It’s a game.
JL: Ok, listen, have a nice evening plus congratulations on your nomination
RD: That was fun
JL: Bye
RD: OK

<<<Переведи его, плиззз - оно маленькое
No problem!

Mira Charity Event 2003, MN/s debrief.

Here, the story of my « adventure » in St.Hyacinthe from June 12 to 15, 2003. It was the first time I attended a Charity Event for MIRA and at the same time an event which gathered as many fans of Roy Dupuis. I knew before I left my place that this weekend would be very special, and it’s happened. Over there, I met extraordinary people, coming from everywhere on the planet. And it was good to finally be able to put the faces on the names/nicknames of people I already knew from the various message boards.

Thursday night, 8:00 pm, June 12, 2003

My luggage is ready and I’m about to leave for the weekend in St.Hyacinthe. As I live in a small city near Quebec City, I expect to be at the Hotel des Seigneurs in approximately 2:00 to 2:30 hours of driving. It is only the third time in 15 years I go in that city. Arriving near St.Hyacinthe, on HWY 20, I see the road sign announcing St-Hyacinthe and indicating the next exit. So, I pulled out on this exit... just to realize that I got lost on a dark town road going to St.Hyacinthe. For approximately one hour, I drived. I think I have even crossed the downtown of St.Hyacinthe, where the ‘’night’’ people hang out on the streets or in the bars and the clubs. I locked my doors... after a while, I found my way... and finally, Hotel des Seigneurs.

I walked in to register and as I returned to park my car and get my luggage, I saw the Royettes’ mission van parked at the door of the Hotel. Wow! What a sight ! I thought that was super ! I took my luggage into my room (in The Tower ) and I went back downstairs to ask the lady at the reception if there was a certain Mrs Kristen Glanzman in the hotel. She confirmed and I asked her to call Mrs Glanzman’s room for me. The time was around 11:30 pm 12:00 am then. For what I remember, the conversation went like this :

« Hello, may I talk to Kristen Glanzman, please ? »

« Speaking… »

« Hello, this is Michael-and-Nikita -o n-standby. »

« Oh hi ! How are you ? »

- I heard her say to the others in her room « that’s MNS» -

« I’m fine, I just arrived. I got lost. »

« How come you got lost and you’re from Quebec ? »

« Well in fifteen years, it’s only the third time I come to St.Hyacinthe, it was dark
and I took the wrong exit… Are there people in your room still ? »

« Yes, sure. You want to come ? »

« Yes, where are you ? »

« It’s room 4-6-8. »

« Ok. I’m climbing… »

Room 468. The door was ajar. I knocked and there she came to greet me. The one and only KG and her keen eye ! We shook hands and, before going to her room, I think it was at that moment, she introduced me to LJhooked (in her pajamas) standing in the doorway of her room which was opposite KG’s room. KG then introduced me to the others in her room. There were GreenEyes (who I recognized from a picture of her I saw in SOS), Tinyteena, Weldflash, who was sitting quietly on the couch, ILPR and Mikiniki (wow ! they were coming from Greece !), and I think there was also two other ops that exited the room shortly after I was in. (Sorry ladies, I can’t remember your names/nicks. My brain was not at its 100% at this late hour). Apparently, I just missed Miss Jan and Denise, her daughter, who left about half an hour before I arrived in KG’s room. We talked a little while and then the phone rang. Sami just arrived at the Hotel. ILPR and Miki went down to meet her. They all came back to KG’s room. Sami talked about what happened and how long she’s waited at the airport and how she finally got to the hotel. Around 12:30 am (or was it 1:30 am ??? Definitely at 1:30 am - KG's confirmed it ) Sami, Weld, ILPR and Miki decided to go on the first floor for a cig (I think !). And I decided to go to my room and let GreenEyes and KG (who was yawning…) get some sleep too.

On the way to my room, I thought how interesting were the people I’ve just met. I was looking forward for the next two days to come and meet the rest of this great gang of people.

Friday June 13, the D-day Update: 10-01-2003

To the soft digital beeping sound of my alarm clock, I opened my eyes. It was 8h30 and it was dark in the room. Comfortably, I began to stretch, asking myself « what day is it today ? »… OMG! I jumped sitting strait up in my bed. D@m, it’s Friday ! Quick ! I’m already late for work ! But wait… Where am I ?!? For about 10 seconds, I was completely lost. Everything came back to me then : I was in a hotel room. Getting out of bed I opened the curtains. I was in St-Hyacinthe. The MIRA Charity Event. The people I have met the night before in KG’s room. The race. And maybe, later… Roy Dupuis…

9h30 am. I went down in the lobby. There, I saw no ops in sight yet. I started looking around to familiarise myself with the place. Standing in front of the reception desk, I began to « scan » the place clockwise : On my left, there was the Buckingham Pub bistro, then the lobby and the main front hotel entrance. On my right, the large corridor to the meeting rooms, then, the tropical garden and the big pool in the middle, and, in the back of the garden, the dinning room, La Table des Seigneurs, from where were coming yummy smells of fresh cuisine and coffee. Mmmmmmm ! Breakfast… I decided to go register for the Event before eating. I took the direction of the large corridor, walking on the dark red carpet. There was a room where I saw its door open. It must be there, the Providence Room. I knocked on the door and stepped inside the room. A very nice operative was sitting all alone at a table. She greeted me with a smile, saying : « Hi, I’m Debra. (Minuet) » I said : « Hi, I want to register for the Event. » and told her my name. She found my name on a list and gave me the MIRA bag with all the « goodies » in it. I thanked her and exited the room. *In the following, I guess I am not the only one who did what I did there.* The first chair I saw in the corridor, I sat on it, in fact, it was just by the door of the Providence Room. I opened the bag to see what it had in it. I found the MIRA Charity Event 2003 schedule, the MIRA dog key ring, the deck of cards, the mousepad, the decorative license plate, and a folder… In the folder, there was a word from Pierre Noiseux, the communications manager for MIRA, and an autographed picture of Roy/Ross in TLC2. Woohoo! Yeah, baby ! Yummy ! Better go and have breakfast now !

Heading toward La Table des Seigneurs, I walked along the pool in the garden. On the garden side of the restaurant, I saw Mikiniki sitting alone at a table. We waved at each other. As I reached the place, Miki asked me if I already had breakfast, and invited me to join her at her table. ILPR and Sami were supposed to join for the breakfast too. While waiting, Miki and I started a conversation to get to know each other better, like, asking what we do in RL and, of course, we talked about things Roy. Then, Sami and ILPR arrived. We’ve enjoyed our company together. After breakfast, the gals and I decided to go for a ride in St-Hyacinthe. It was around 11h30 am.

At one moment, while driving, I had that strange feeling of deja vu. I think I recognized some of the places (like the cemetery) I drove by the night before, when I was lost in St-Hyacinthe. It’s funny how scary places at night can be differently perceived during daylight. Anyway, the girls and I went back to the hotel at around 1h00 pm. Outside, it already began to rain.

Walking in the lobby, I saw some new operatives sitting there, near the main entrance of the hotel. Remembering some pictures I saw in MR, I recognized Sanibelle and OutSpokin who were talking with other operatives. In fact, it seemed to me that the first floor of the hotel was now mainly « occupied » by the attendees of the MIRA Charity Event 2003, happily chatting with each other. On that special moment, I’ve met in person many operatives I knew only by their nicknames, and for some of them, by their famous reputation as well. I talked with Sanibelle and OutSpokin, two very fine and interesting people. BrownEyes came to me and introduced herself. Wow ! At last, I was very happy to finally meet her. Then, Dame JeSuisReine, and the very dear MissJan and Denise. I also shook hands with NXSTER and The Purpleshark and, I recognized GR2, from Down Under, who introduced me to Margie also an aussie op. I also met Adorelfn, and Millenia. (And later, during the weekend, I’ve met with Lilitz91, Mary Pat, the op lady from BC, Canada, who I talked with at the Sunday morning auction – I’m sorry I forgot your name - and the people at MIRA : Pierre, Simon, Denis; Gilles Gingras and Sylvie Potvin. And… of course, ROY ! Camery who’s offered us to watch her « goodies », video presentation, on Saturday night. Thanks ! The members of the MIRA Charity Event 2003 Commitee : Thank you, ladies ! You rock ! Also many other cool people who I may forget at the moment.) Maybe one hour had passed, and outside, it was still raining. Then, we heard somebody say that the race could be cancelled because of that rain… We would have more intel from Joyce later.

At around 3:00 pm, we all gathered in the Calixa-Lavallee room. We all gathered there, waiting for an news update about the race, whether it was cancelled or not because of the rain. Then, a tall woman with tall black hair entered the room. I was seeing Joyce Wolf for the first time in person. All I can say about her is (I only have this Quebecois French expression coming to mind : « Elle a de la « drive » !), wow ! what an incredible and great lady !

I will stop my debrief here. We’re already in October. I couldn’t find the appropriate moment, this summer, to finish it for some reasons and a hectic RL. Also, all has already been said about Roy, the MIRA tour, our weekend in St-Hyacinthe by many of you who attended the Event last June.

(To those who had sent me some questions for an interview with Roy in St-Hyacinthe : I did not forget about you. I couldn’t do the « stunt » interview then because the time and place were not appropriate when we were with Roy. To do so, I would have had to « steal » some precious minutes from the other attendees of the time we spent with him (Roy stayed with us for about 6 hours). I hope you understand the situation. However, I’ve sent Roy a copy of the questions of that interview, through his agency in Montreal, in the beginning of September. I’ll see what happens with that eventually, hopefully. I’ll let you know if, by any chance (a miracle !), he replies back.)

All I can say about my own experience on that weekend is : Roy Dupuis is not a complicated man and he has a lot of charisma. Harmony between man, animal and nature seems to be highly essential for him, and it shows in the charities he’s involved in, The Rivers and MIRA. He is a very generous man with a heart of gold. He gave us his time, his good humor and the kindness to be « present » on that special Friday night. No wonder why so many people are attracted to him. Because of the kind of human being he is, he’s created a bond of friendship between all of us, regardless the language or the country where we come from.
