“We’re not going to make it!” Piper said as they hurried to the cemetery, gasping for breath.

“Yes we will,” Phoebe said determinedly. “That girl’s not going to die.”

“Just hurry up,” Paige urged, taking the lead as she sprinted into the gates.

The scene was exactly as it had been in Phoebe’s premonition-a creature’s hands wrapped tightly around a woman’s neck, gripping harder and harder, his face twisted into a gruesome mask.

Piper quickly blew it up. “Ha!” she said proudly. “That was easy.”

Phoebe rolled her eyes. “So confident for someone who didn’t think we’d make it.”

The girl got to her feet, quickly getting into fighting stance. “Who are you?” she demanded.

The sisters exchanged a glance. “You don’t seem too surprised about what just happened,” Piper commented.

The brunette shrugged as she brushed off her leather pants. “Happens all the time,” she said nonchalantly. “Now, I’m gonna ask again before I attack. Who the hell are you?”

“We’re witches,” Paige said, and the girl nodded.

“Kick ass powers. Much better than Red’s, that’s for sure.”

“Red?”

She smirked. “Yeah. I’m Faith.”

“Phoebe, Piper, and I’m Paige,” she said, introducing them.

Phoebe felt her eyes drawn to Faith’s generous cleavage that showed from her tight tank top and blushed. Faith noticed and smirked knowingly. “Well, thanks for saving my life. Later.” She turned, tucking a wooden stake out of the way.

“Wait,” Phoebe found herself asking. “Where are you staying?”

Faith shrugged. “Haven’t found a place yet.”

“Why don’t you stay with us?”

Piper blinked. “Um, Phoebe, maybe that’s not such a-”

Faith shook her head. “Nah, I’m cool. I’ll just find some rat-infested motel to tide me over until I find the Charmed Ones. Then I’m out of here.” She flashed them a confident smile.

“Well, you just found them,” Piper informed her.

Faith raised an eyebrow. “You three are the Charmed Ones? I didn’t expect them to be quite so…” Hot, she said to herself, smirking as she saw the middle sister blush.

“So…?” Paige prompted.

“Never mind. Listen, I have some message for you. I’m supposed to warn you about a demon.” She paused. “Shit. I can’t remember his name at the moment,” she said, and Phoebe found herself thinking that her frustration was extremely sexy and hating the thought.

I just lost my husband, and besides, I’m not gay! She chided herself, but then why was she so attracted to this woman… this girl? She had to be a few years younger than her.

“I’ll call when I get in touch with Angel.”

“Angel?” Phoebe inquired, wondering if that was her boyfriend.

Faith smirked. “Not my boyfriend,” she said, as if reading her mind. “Cordelia, who works for him, got some vision of a demon attacking you and killing you. So to get me out of their hair for a few days, they sent me here.”

“What exactly are you?” Piper asked bluntly.

“A vampire slayer.”

“And that would be?”

“Someone who slays vampires, Piper,” Paige said, rolling her eyes, and Faith bit back a laugh.

“Well I’m off to catch some sleep,” Faith said, starting to walk away. “I’ll be in touch.”

“Wait,” Piper said reluctantly. “Phoebe’s offer is still open. You can stay with us.”

“Really?” Faith asked skeptically.

“You’re not wanted in three states, are you?”

“Only two,” Faith said airily, and they looked at her as if deciding if she was being truthful. She laughed. “Lighten up,” she suggested. “I’m harmless.”

Piper slowly nodded. “Come on.”

“You can stay in my room,” Phoebe said as she showed her upstairs. Piper and Paige were in the kitchen discussing someone, and Phoebe had taken the prerogative to show her around. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”

Faith flashed her a mischievous smile. “We can share the bed.”

Phoebe blushed. “Really, it’s okay; I don’t mind. Do you need something to wear?”

“Nope, I sleep in the nude,” Faith smirked. “I need the body warmth, Pheebs. I don’t bite.” She walked past the older woman and whispered in her ear. “Unless you ask me to.”

With that, she plopped onto the bed, starting to unlace her boots. “Faith, I’m straight,” Phoebe said.

Faith shrugged. “It was worth a try.”

“And my husband just died.”

“Geez, I get the hint, okay? I won’t hit on you.”

Phoebe smiled slightly. “I’ll stay in here.” She pulled her pajamas out of the closet, then started to walk to the door.

“You can change in here, you know,” Faith’s voice made her pause. “I won’t look.” Much, she added to herself.

Phoebe looked at her briefly, then shut the door to her bedroom. Blushing brightly, she turned and started to undress as Faith gazed at her fit body. “You work out, huh?” Faith asked, unable to resist teasing her.

Phoebe quickly pulled her shirt on and glared at her. “I thought you weren’t going to look!”

Faith laughed. “C’mon, Pheebs. All in the fun, right?” She pulled off her shirt, throwing it into the corner, and Phoebe felt her gaze drawn to her bare chest. She forced herself to stop thinking about how attractive she was finding the other woman.

Phoebe slipped into bed, turning away from Faith as she pulled off her leather pants and tossed them aside. She slid under the covers, snuggling close to Phoebe, whose eyes shot open as the vampire slayer’s arms wrapped around her. “G’night,” Faith said happily, her warm breath blowing into Phoebe’s ear. Phoebe squirmed uncomfortably, glad that Faith couldn’t see her blush.

“Night.”

“Oh, wait, I forgot something,” Faith said suddenly, sitting up. Phoebe sat up as well, looking at her.

“What?”

Faith leaned in, kissing her quickly on the lips, then laying back down. “Night!”

Stunned, Phoebe lay back down, not even pulling away as the girl’s arms found their way back around her.

~*~

Faith didn’t have any nightmares for the first time in what seemed like forever. Thinking back, it probably was forever-she’d had them since she was seven. But who could really have nightmares with beautiful women like Phoebe Halliwell sleeping at their side? Granted, it was only sleeping, but by the way Phoebe blushed and stammered around her like an innocent schoolgirl, Faith expected her shyness to not last long.

Of course, there was the matter of the husband. Faith could tell by the haunted look in the woman’s eyes that she wasn’t lying, and she pitied the older one, who seemed so very young and helpless as she slept. Sighing slightly, Faith pulled Phoebe closer and closed her eyes, soon drifting back into a thankfully dreamless slumber.

Phoebe, on the other hand, wasn’t having a good rest at all. Cole… Cole kept haunting her, and she wanted him to go away! She wanted to be happy, and wanted to move on… with Faith? She couldn’t deny the all-too -o bvious attraction between them, and the kiss…. Phoebe had yearned for the younger girl to kiss her again, and had been disappointed when she’d merely fallen asleep. But slowly, she thought. Must take it slowly-and besides, why would Faith want to stay with a widow who claimed she was straight? Friendship? Doubtful.

Phoebe stirred, then realized she was in Faith’s arms and smiled wistfully, wishing she could wake her with gentle kisses as she had done with Cole so many times… She bit her lip, then sighed.

Faith opened her eyes and yawned. “Morning,” she mumbled. “What time is it?”

Phoebe checked her clock. “Almost eleven.” She paused. “Sleep well?”

Faith lazily smirked. “Had great dreams about naked women,” she said, causing Phoebe to blush. But feeling slightly playful herself, she answered,

“Faith, Faith, how can you fantasize about me when you’ve never even seem me naked?” she teased.

Faith studied her briefly, then decided quickly, grabbing her and yanking off her pajama top. Phoebe, stunned, just stared at her as Faith smirked and softly whispered. “Now I’ve seen you topless… that takes care of one of the fantasies.” She leaned in, kissing Phoebe lingeringly, then smiled. “Two. There are three, but I think two in one day is more than enough.”

“Three?” Phoebe inquired, curious almost in spite of herself… yet almost hoping that Faith would kiss her again.

Faith smirked, yet shook her head. “Nah. Let’s not scare you.”

“You wouldn’t scare me.”

Raising an eyebrow, Faith grabbed her again and pulled down her pants, revealing sexy black lingerie. “Nice,” she commented as Phoebe blushed harder.

“That’s it?” Phoebe asked, slightly disappointed, and Faith mischievously shook her head.

“Not at all. Want me to keep going?”

Breathless as Faith traced a finger down her stomach, she nodded, swallowing nervously.

“If you insist,” Faith whispered into her mouth, kissing her and pulling her down. Straddling her, Faith’s hands began to wander-and Phoebe didn’t tell her to stop then.

Deep inside her pain of missing someone’s loving touch, not really caring who it was… she didn’t ask that the slayer stop then.

Nor when Faith slowly slipped her fingers inside of her…

Or when she cried out in ecstasy.

She didn’t realize what it meant.

Or that she was falling in love.

~*~

“You’re beautiful,” Faith whispered, clinging to Phoebe’s hand. Phoebe pulled it away, and Faith blinked in surprise. “Pheebs?”

“I can’t,” Phoebe said, slipping out of bed and hurrying to pull on a robe. Faith stared at her, barely even paying attention to her nudity.

“Phoebe, what’s wrong?” she asked, bewildered.

“I shouldn’t have done that,” Phoebe said, aching-not because she had slept with a girl.

She was aching because she loved it.

Because she wanted to do it again.

Because…

Because she had briefly forgotten about Cole.

And that terrified her.

“Phoebe, I’m sorry,” Faith began, but Phoebe interrupted her.

“We’d better start seeing about that demon. You need to get back.”

Closing her eyes, hurt, she mumbled, “Yeah,” and followed Phoebe downstairs.

“You okay?” Piper asked, eyeing them and looking concerned at their grim looks.

“Five by five,” Faith said breezily, quickly covering up her pain. Piper shrugged.

“Remember the demon yet?” Paige asked, looking up from her coffee.

Faith shook her head. “I’ll call Giles.”

Piper directed her to the phone, and the kitchen fell silent as they waited for the slayer and eldest charmed one to return.

“Okay, what happened?” Piper demanded the second she returned, looking at Phoebe, who looked horribly guilty.

“We slept together,” she whispered, looking away.

Paige shrugged. “So what?” she asked, not getting the full meaning.

“Wait… slept together… or slept together?” Piper asked suspiciously.

One look at Phoebe’s guilty face told them everything they needed to know, and Piper’s mouth dropped open.

“Phoebe!”

Phoebe flinched. “Piper…”

“Look, it’s bad enough that it’s a girl, but Faith? She wears leather…”

“So?” Phoebe snapped. “If I recall correctly, you wore leather and did a table dance.”

Piper blushed brightly, and Paige shot them a questioning look. “I don’t see why it’s that big of a deal, Piper. Phoebe needed to get her mind off of things, and Faith is hot.”

“Oh, don’t tell me you’re gay too,” Piper said hotly.

“I’m not gay,” Paige said. “But so what if I was?”

“It’s just… wrong, okay? The bible says it is.”

“Yeah, well, the bible said that witches can’t be good,” Phoebe pointed out.

“It’s not the same!” Piper protested.

“Sounds like you’re just using that to justify prejudice,” Phoebe said softly. “What if I loved her?”

Piper gaped at her. “You don’t.”

“Maybe, maybe not! But what if I did? Would you really hate me for loving another woman?”

“I don’t know, Phoebe,” Piper said softly. “I really don’t know if I could accept it.”

Phoebe briefly shut her eyes. “Well, I’m sorry then. Because I’m falling in love with her.”

Faith slowly backed away, trying not to hear the conversation but feeling it hit so close to home.
“You’re a fucking lesbian?” her mother shouted, and Faith’s eyes were drawn to the half-empty beer bottle in her hand.

“Calm down,” she said, trying to stay calm enough for the both of them.

“Your school calls me and tells me that my good for-nothing daughter was caught fucking a girl in the janitor’s closet, and you tell me to calm down?!” she shrieked, and Faith flinched.

“Look, I can explain-” Faith began.

She was forced to duck as the bottle went flying through the air. “Get out!”

“Wait!”

“Get the fuck out of my house!”

She didn’t want it to be like that with Phoebe. Phoebe didn’t deserve to be alienated; Phoebe deserved to have a family, the family she had never had. She knew she was just a fluke anyway-Phoebe was almost definitely straight. Without her… she and her sisters would get along again.

So, she painfully closed her eyes briefly, reveling in the memories of the past night, then quietly walked out of the house, the door closing with absolute finality behind her.

Still, Phoebe’s words echoed in her ears…

“I’m falling in love with her.”

Phoebe had been willing to give up everything for her, and she’d just left. She was a fucking idiot, she realized before she got even halfway down the block. She stopped, torn between wrecking Phoebe’s life and trying to claim the love she knew she deserved. The love that hadn’t been returned with B… B.

She closed her eyes, her heart aching. She had thought she’d loved the blonde slayer, and she’d betrayed her. And now… Now, she was falling for a witch, a beautiful, funny, smart, older witch.

Quite frankly, it scared the hell out of her.

Unable to decide, she sat down on the sidewalk, gazing up at the sky and glaring at the few people who dared even glance at her. Bitch as always, aren’t you Faith? She asked herself wryly. Can’t even accept love.

Because, as had been pounded into her since day one, she didn’t deserve it.

She didn’t deserve a family, she didn’t deserve a life, because … Because she was useless and everyone knew it.

Even in Sunnydale, she had been an outsider, even with people like her. She forced herself to stop thinking that way-the last time she’d had those thoughts, it had ended with Buffy chained to a wall and her ranting about how perfect… yeah. It wasn’t a memory she enjoyed, though the kiss…

She had wanted to kiss the older slayer on the lips, but hadn’t dared to, settling for the forehead. She’d thought she’d be back, to claim the love that was hers. To break Buffy’s heart into a million pieces like she’d had her own broken when she’d been rejected.

But in her heart, she knew she couldn’t do that to Phoebe.

“That’s it!” Phoebe snapped. “I have had it with you trying to take over everything! You’re not Prue, and you’re not some god. So stop trying to control my life!”

While Piper and Page stared after her in complete shock, Phoebe stormed out of the kitchen.

“Faith?” she called out. Uneasily, she looked around. “Faith, where are you?” she asked frustratedly. Not seeing the slayer, she bit back a sob. Had Faith just used her and left? Had everything just been some lie?

“Right here.”

Phoebe turned to see Faith leaning against the door. Rushing to her, Faith, surprised, held her tightly. “Don’t scare me like that,” she said fiercely, kissing her.

“I… I’m sorry,” Faith said, trying to hide her shock that Phoebe had actually noticed she had left. “I just went on a walk.”

Phoebe met her eyes searchingly, as if trying to decide if she was lying or not. Finally, she nodded. “Well, I have to pack,” she said determinedly. She started for the stairs and Faith blinked.

“Phoebe?”

She rushed behind her to catch up.

“What are you talking about?”

“We’re leaving.”

“Pheebs, think about this,” Faith pleaded. “They’re your sisters.”

“I am not,” she slammed a drawer closed, causing Faith to flinch, “going to let my sister tell me that loving another woman is wrong.”

“And she shouldn’t,” Faith argued. “But how are things supposed to change if you just leave?”

~*~

“Piper, can we talk?” Tessa asked nervously.

“Sure,” Piper said, smiling at her.

Tessa briefly closed her eyes, looking away. “I…you…I’m gay,” she admitted, looking at Piper fearfully to see her reaction.

Piper blinked, that having been the last thing she’d expected. “Oh,” she said, a bit stumped as to what to say next.

“And…” Tessa paused, and Piper suddenly became uncomfortably aware of what would be the next sentence out of her best friend’s mouth. “I have a crush on you,” she said almost too quietly to hear.

Piper flinched, pulling away. “Tessa, I’m not… like that,” she said, a bit unnerved.

“I-I know,” she responded, but the hurt was evident in her tone. “I… I just thought I should tell you.” She flashed her a weak smile. “I just want to be friends.”

“I don’t know, Tessa,” Piper said seriously. “I’m not sure…”

Tessa leaned in, kissing Piper urgently, and Piper flinched. “Please, Piper,” she said desperately.

Without another word, Piper stood and left the room.

~*~

Her sister thought she was falling for a girl. Like hell. Girls were not supposed to fall for other girls. They were supposed to fall for guys, have a great home life with kids, and live happily after ever.

Ha.

So why had Piper felt something when Tessa had kissed her all those years ago? Why had she wanted to do it again, to have her kiss her and never stop? It was wrong; she knew that, so why did she want it so badly? And now… Now her sister was falling in love with a girl.

She couldn’t bring herself to apologize, couldn’t bring herself to explain why she was taking it the way she was. It was embarrassing to her, too much to remember, too much to face, and it was so damn hard. ‘Chicken,’ she thought, then slumped against the kitchen counter. She glanced around, expecting to see Paige, but she was all alone, and she began to cry.
